Church decorations: Simple and Elegant

August 25th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Without a doubt, churches are spectacular feats of architecture. Ecclesiastical architecture has evolved over two thousand years of the Christian religion, partly by innovation and partly by imitating other architectural styles as well as responding to changing beliefs, practices and local traditions.  For those reasons alone I rarely recommend to clients that the church decorations be over the top. As illustrated below I think history has taken care of that!

This is The Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on 74th Street in Manhattan. It was founded in 1892. Less than 24 hours prior to this wedding the dome had scaffolding from floor to ceiling! Phew….

I absolutely love Phalaenopsis orchids for the church. They hold their own against such a luxurious back drop. I also love pairing the bright white of the orchids with shades of yellow and chartreuse green.

I am not a huge fan of the fabric runner as it ALWAYS looks like “H” “E” double toothpicks in photos. Whenever possible we use an inexpensive low pile carpet for the runner.

Just gorgeous! (if I do say so myself)
