Over President’s Day weekend we produced a wedding at The Breakers in Palm Beach. This wedding was a year in the creative process and many hours in the making. The journey started in our studio in New York City with mother and daughter. They were wonderful creative partners because they were certain about what they didn’t want and completely open minded to the yet undiscovered outcome. This is one key component to the success of a destination wedding - if there are places where magic happens, it is in the unknown.
The primary sources of inspiration that remained constant threads throughout the design were the brides’s wedding gown (designed by Oscar de la Renta), “simple elegance”, and the sea. We used the fabric pattern from the wedding gown for two of the grandest elements of the design, the ceremony chuppah and a hand-painted dance floor for the dinner reception. To achieve “simple elegance” we chose low centerpieces, linen table cloths, and one type of flower for the ceremony, another for the cocktail reception, and a third for the dinner reception. The sea was ever-present because of the location and further re-enforced through the color scheme - shades of blue for cocktails and more subdued shades of (sand), whites with glints of silver for the ceremony and dinner.
No grand undertaking is successful without the creative and technical support of so many talented people to make it happen. Destination weddings are technically challenging but one of my personal favorites to do. It truly takes a village to produce and there are never two experiences alike. From my very, very talented staff to the unparalleled commitment to service at The Breakers it was truly a magical day.

I’ll bet the lighting was just beautiful from the dance floor. Do you have any pictures of it from underneath?
