Destination Goodies

December 4th, 2009 · 1 Comment

People travel far and assume a fair amount of expense to attend a destination wedding. A lovely gift bag is a nice thank you… if it is in your budget. It’s so fun to swing open the hotel room door only to be greeted with a heart felt thank you in the form of surprise gift.

I try to fill the bag with yummy and practical items for the trip that reflect the destination’s beauty and culture.  For a beach wedding I might include a towel, mini flashlight, or perhaps flip cams.  I am a sucker for a map as they can pull double duty not only showing you where things are but also highlighting local activities, shops, restaurants, and places of interest for your guests to explore on their own.

Here is a gift bag we created for a Nantucket wedding. We embroidered hats, bags, and had custom maps made. Then we scoured the cobble stone streets to find sweet & savory snacks of fudge, New England whoopie pies and the famous Cape Cod Chips.

This drawstring bag was from a wedding in Minnesota at a camp/lodge. Included were things to make guests more comfortable since Minnesota is a destination prone to rainy weather and mosquitoes! The bags were stuffed with a flashlight, bug spray, and a cute hand sketched map.

This tote was from a wedding at the Ritz-Carlton in St. Thomas and perhaps the swankiest. We put together a cozy wrap, plush beach towel, yummy chocolate chip cookies (baked by the chef at the hotel), and of course flip flops and sun block to soothe any sun burns from the Caribbean sun!
