Musings from Nancy……
I am fortunate to have found a career that incorporates my passion for travel. When you love traveling as much as I do you’ll find any excuse to jump on a plane!
I am most fascinated by the element of discovery in the destination locations I have had the opportunity to visit. What makes them unique…what are the challenges?
Over the past several years the popularity of the destination wedding has exploded. This increase in demand has made hosting a wedding in a remote location more approachable than it was 10 years ago. I thought it would be helpful to touch on the pros and cons of hosting a wedding in New York verses taking your wedding on the road. Experiencing a new and exotic location is not just about the honeymoon anymore!
Why host a destination wedding?
Location, location, location! When you host a wedding on an island the beautiful back drop of the island becomes part of your décor. A simple candlelight story and use of locally grown flowers can be all you need to create the perfect mood.
Turn up the heat! For those that love summertime, you can be in a warm location practically any month of the year. You are guaranteed great weather and most Caribbean islands are just a direct flight away-no connections!
Think out of the box! Be more playful and incorporate different twists on traditions. You can host a bonfire on the beach as a meet and greet or perhaps a sunset cruise instead of a sitdown rehearsal dinner.
Hop, skip and a jump! Once all the festivities are over you can quickly nestle into your honeymoon suite on a neighboring island without wasting lots of travel time.
Why go local?
What ever! All the resources you could possibly need are right at your fingertips. The variety of vendors and talent is unparalleled.
When ever! The changing seasons inspire so many beautiful designs. A winter wedding is just magical in Manhattan-snow…horse drawn carriage rides and hot chocolate. The canvas of a brilliant fall back drop in Central Park will make for unforgettable memories and photographs.
Where ever!
There are undeniable benefits to having a New York City wedding or a destination wedding. What experience speaks to you more clearly? What feels more manageable to you?
My recommendation is to simply identify what core components are most important to you and your groom for your wedding day experience. Once you identify that…your choice will be easy.
Happy Hunting! Nancy~

I am thrilled you made this post tapping in on the subject of destination weddings. My firm actually just booked a destination for this July. It’s really wonderful to go somewhere new and excited to say your vows, plus it gives guests a great excuse to go on a trip! Thanks for sharing this!
