Tips for Destination Wedding Design!

September 1st, 2009 · 2 Comments

I spend a lot of time designing simple concepts that provide big impact. Shipping decor items can be costly and frustrating. Here are some tips that create an impact and are still elegant and beachy!

Below we added shells to a piece of manzanita to be used instead of a costly flower chandelier. Also note the backdrop to the gazebo….it is coral grosgrain ribbon affixed in a crisscross pattern!

I also love to add grosgrain ribbon to the backs of the chairs. You have seen it again and again in my work from super elegant weddings at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach to a seaside wedding at The Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas.

Here is another close-up of the ribbon and how we tied it into the handle of the shell bouquet.

We also added sand dollars and starfish sconces to the sides of the gazebo to soften the lines a bit more.

Another clever way to transform the look of an otherwise ordinary gazebo is to hang fabric panels. These are a bit more pricey but if you are doing a small reception and not spending a ton on the decor this is a really nice investment.

I also tend to go overboard on the bucket for the flower-girl bucket and ring-bearer pillow. Kids tend to be a tricky in-terms of their concentration and patience. A pretty bucket for a little girl goes a long way!
